Lahangan Sweet is located in eastern Bali, perched high in the mountains of the Karangasem Regency.

This stunning viewpoint sits at an elevation that offers panoramic views of both Mount Agung and the Bali Sea, making it one of the most spectacular locations in the region.

Lahangan Sweet Map

It’s nestled away from any major towns or villages, with Amed—the closest town—located 18 kilometres away.

There are plenty of interesting sites close to Lahangan Sweet like Tirta Gangga Water Palace, Lempuyang Temple and some amazing rice terraces.

The big hub towns like Ubud, Canggu and Denpasar are truly not in any way close, so if you are planning a trip to Lahangan Sweet, I wouldn’t recommend staying that far away. You don’t need unnecessary headaches.

So you can add some more activities to your day when planning a trip.

Getting To Lahangan Sweet

When we visited Lahangan Sweet we paid for a private driver to essentially bring us around the area for the day. It honestly worked out great.

We saw several people cycling up the steep, hilly road, which looked quite challenging. Even riding scooters was difficult, though doable. If you’re experienced with scooters, then go ahead and give it a try.

If you’re like us and have little past experience then get a driver to take you.

There is a small area to park at the entrance of Lahangan Sweet but do note when we were leaving it started to get very busy and would be more difficult to get a space.

Though not impossible.

If you want to use our driver who is reliable and friendly send me a message and I will happily share his contact.

The Dirt Road To Lahangan Sweet’s Summit

Once you pay in at the entrance you have a choice to make.

It’s not a major decision, but it can either save you time or money.

As mentioned already, we opted to walk the short dirt road and skip the 4×4. It will make you breathe heavier, but for me, the views and great weather made it a truly lovely experience.

We heard some locals playing loud music and doing karaoke on the way up which was a nice touch.

As the weather had been hot and dry there was no issue with the trek, apart from the fact it was a little steep.

After about ten minutes, the surroundings become more manicured and beautiful. Before you know it, you’re inside, either swinging on the attractions or sitting down to gaze into the far distance.

I promise you that Lahangan Sweet will impress you.

My Experience At Lahangan Sweet

Our driver who we had prearranged collected us at our hotel in Amed at 09.00 am.

We were at the Lahangan Sweet entrance at 09.45 am.

This driver had previously brought us from the ferry port at Padang Bai to Amed so we trusted him to be punctual.

We spent a good hour and a half inside Lahangan Sweet, though I recommend spending more time if you can afford it.

When we arrived there were few people around. This shocked me because I thought it was one of the best things to do in Amed. And it is, but the number of people there didn’t show it.

We got some great photos. Yet, I didn’t enjoy the long line to get the standard photo on the wooden deck at the tree.

There are plenty of other nice places to photograph up there too. For example, right across from the long lines was another wooden viewing area with literally nobody. For the same picture, I prefer no line thanks very much.

When we arrived our driver parked up and sat around and waited for us. We Lahangan sweet entry fee was 100,000 per person and we paid at the entrance in cash.

We walked up the 1km dirt road because we wanted to enjoy the wonderful views and nature nature along the way.

There is a 4X4 shuttle service you can take if you prefer which costs 50,000 Rupees up and back or just up costs 30,000 Rupees.

To use the swing cost another 100,000 which lasted about ten minutes or so.

While we didn’t visit at sunrise you can get special photos there considering Mount Agung in the distance.

Still, I was very happy with my photos overall from Lahangan Sweet. It was cool to see the area we were staying in Amed from the summit which we now found ourselves at!

To walk along the ridge and see wonderful views on either side was epic.

Lahangan Sweet is well-designed for a peaceful nature experience. There is comfortable seating areas, a restaurant, and numerous scenic spots perfect for photography for your Instagram feed.

Lahangan Sweet Entry Fee?

Visitors must pay 50,000 Rupees per person which you pay in cash at the entrance.

Lahangnan Sweet Warung (Restaurant)

There is a restaurant at the summit which offers a nice array of Indonesian foods which you can typically find at most Warungs.

Listed in the image is the menu and you can expect to pay similar costs for a meal that you would in Amed.

Many people sit and drink coffee, eat and recharge their batteries with one of the most amazing viewpoints I have witnessed in Bali.

There is a bathroom too where visitors can freshen up.

Camping at Lahangan Sweet

When we visited Lahangan Sweet, we loved the fact we saw people camping in their tents on top of the peak overlooking the Bali Sea.

Right away we wanted to set up camp there and join them for what looked to be an awesome overnight experience.

At the end of the day, the truth is you may not be back in Lahangan Sweet ever again. So why not make the most of it and experience a sunrise AND a sunset?

Of course, waking up and looking down upon the sea or watching the sunrise over the mount Agung has got to be amazing.

While there are no showers at the campsite there is a toilet and generator. While the cost to camp can vary you can expect to pay between 150,000-200,000 Rupees per person which includes a tent for rent.

Note, you can simply bring your own camping gear too.

But you will have to add in another expense for cleaning the area once you have left.

Sunrise or Sunset? – Best Time To Visit Lahangan Sweet

Do you prefer catching the sunrise or watching the sunset?

Whether you prefer sunrise or sunset, you’ll be treated to stunning views and photos as the sun adds an extra dimension of beauty.

Should you be in the mood for sunrise then prepare to set your alarm early.

06.00 AM will be an ideal time t be sitting on the peak and ready to watch the light change all around.

In contrast, if you prefer to watch the sun go down, you can also enjoy the evening views. Arriving around 5:00 PM will help you avoid the crowds and secure a prime spot for the spectacular sunset.

Best Time Of Year To Visit Lahangan Sweet

July and August will give you the best weather in Bali. This is also the time with most visitors.

When we visited in August, we were a little surprised how few people were attending during the late morning after the sunrise. Even in the high season.

Most visitors likely came for sunrise or planned to arrive later for sunset. This gave us a peaceful break from the usual high-season crowds you typically find in Bali during this time of year.

Still, we loved our time at Lahangan Sweet.

April, May and June will also offer fewer visitors, as will September and October.

November until March is when you can expect more rain.

Tips for visiting Lahangan Sweet

  • Remember to bring cash—they don’t take cards here
  • Wear comfy shoes for the dirt track to the viewpoint – I don’t recommend sandals especially if wet weather
  • Head there for sunrise or sunset to skip the midday heat
  • Pack sunscreen and a hat since there’s not much shade
  • Bring your camera—the views of Mount Agung and the coast are incredible
  • Book a driver if you’re not keen on tackling steep mountain roads
  • Pack water and snacks, though you can grab food at the local warungs
  • Check the weather before you go—you’ll want clear skies for the best views
  • Pack some warm layers if you’re camping
  • Plan to spend 2-3 hours here to really soak it all in

Conclusion – Is Lahangan Sweet Worth Visiting?

That’s my post about Lahangan Sweet. To be fair, it stunned me – in the best way possible.

Apart from the fact that in the high season in August, it wasn’t overcrowded the views I experienced were honestly fantastic.

Additionally, the fact that we rented a driver to bring us up most of the way meant that we had plenty of energy to explore Lahangan Sweet itself.

I wouldn’t recommend cycling or walking up the steep, challenging road. I totally recommend renting a driver to take you there, then walking the short dirt road to the summit.

You can grab a coffee or have lunch with the most wonderful views. Additionally, you can experience one of Bali’s giant swings if you want to. You can get your photo taken in one of Eastern Bali’s most spectacular locations.

Heck, even if you’re arriving for sunset, you can camp at Lahangan Sweet for the night and catch a spectacular sunrise in the morning.

With breathtaking views and endless photo opportunities, how could anyone resist visiting Bali’s most spectacular viewpoint?

  1. One of the neat things about this eye-popping spot James is for that day at least, few were around. Gems pop up rarely in terms of being dazzling and having few folks around; quiet, peaceful and drop-dead gorgeous does not come together often. Definitely the most scenic spot on Bali based on your photos and my experience over 5 trips to the Island of the Gods.

    1. Thanks for commenting Ryan. Its a great place and as you say many true gems that I loved exploring. When writing this post up I couldn’t help but feel the urge to look at flights back to Bali. Its a beautiful place although it has some issues – like most places, I would recommend all travellers visit at least once!
