Negotiating The Cost
Bali taxi drivers love to barter.
So do the tour agencies. My advice would be after two weeks in Amed and two weeks in Ubud to try and get a better price.
Like anywhere else in Bali, prices are negotiable, and the first quote is rarely the final price.
Take time to have a friendly conversation and try to negotiate a better rate if you’re travelling on a budget.
Through friendly conversation, we managed to negotiate better prices with our drivers in Bali, resulting in a win-win situation for everyone.
While Bali isn’t as budget-friendly as Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, or Cambodia, don’t hesitate to politely negotiate for better rates, just approach it with a friendly and respectful attitude.

Best Time Of The Day To Travel Between Ubud And Amed?
When we visited Ubud and Amed it was the peak of the high season.
While I expected worse in the streets walking, the traffic was truly terrible.
Surprisingly, it was the worst between 06.00 PM and about 10.00 PM. The narrow streets of Ubud were usually jam-packed at these times with long tailbacks as far as I could see.
Sitting in traffic for an hour just to travel a few kilometres after visiting the epic waterfalls and temples was frustrating and exhausting.
This is the joy of Bali’s traffic.
I recommend leaving around 9:00 AM to avoid both the late afternoon traffic and the evening peak times mentioned above.
