Santa Cruz is Seville’s charming old Jewish quarter, and honestly, it’s one of my favourite areas to explore in the city.
Getting lost in the maze of narrow cobblestone streets between whitewashed buildings feels like stepping into a storybook, with flower-filled balconies overhead and glimpses of hidden courtyards through beautiful wooden doors.
I spent hours wandering these winding lanes, popping into little souvenir shops and taking breaks at lovely coffee spots along the way.
The streets are so narrow in places you can almost touch both sides – perfect for shade in the summer heat!
There’s something really special about sitting at a café here, enjoying a coffee and watching locals and visitors mix in this historic neighbourhood.

This is an amazing place to stay in Seville.
Los Remedios
Los Remedios is one of my favourite spots in Seville, especially during the Feria de Abril! I’ll never forget visiting during the fair. The whole neighbourhood transforms into this incredible party atmosphere.
The streets were packed with locals in their beautiful flamenco dresses and suits, and you could hear Sevillana music everywhere you turned.
The neighbourhood really knows how to throw a festival – the fairground fills up with hundreds of casetas (those cool party tents), and the energy is just amazing.
Sure, it gets pretty hectic during the fair, but that’s half the fun! There’s nothing quite like being in the middle of Seville’s biggest celebration.
When it’s not the fair season, Los Remedios has a totally different vibe.
It’s much more laid-back and local than the tourist spots in the centre.
You’ll find lots of great restaurants and cafes where actual Sevillians hang out, and it’s still super easy to get to all the main sights when you want to play tourist.

So, if you’re looking for a slice of authentic Seville, El Arenal is your spot.

Museo
I can’t get enough of Museo – it’s one of Seville’s best shopping streets and such a cool place to spend an afternoon.
The modern tram that glides through the street adds this really neat contrast against all the beautiful old buildings.
The street runs between Plaza Nueva and Plaza del Duque, and you’ll find everything from big-name stores to cute local shops.
Also, what I love most is how they’ve managed to blend the tram line so perfectly with the pedestrian areas – it makes wandering around so enjoyable. The wide sidewalks are always buzzing with life – you’ll see locals going about their day alongside tourists taking it all in.
Still, it’s especially nice around sunset when the shop windows light up and everyone’s out for their evening stroll.

Unlike the more polished tourist areas, Macarena shows you the real, everyday Seville. Here you’ll find local markets, traditional tapas bars, and neighbourhood cafes where prices are notably lower than in the city centre.
For budget-conscious travellers, Macarena offers excellent value for money when it comes to accommodation. You’ll find plenty of affordable apartments, guesthouses, and hotels here that cost significantly less than similar options in the city centre.

As one satisfied guest shared: “Liked the location. Lots to walk to or busses nearby. Groceries almost outside the door. It was so quiet in the unit. That was a nice change from the city center. Liked that we could use the heaters as it was fairly cold a few nights. Liked the kitchen. Bed was comfortable. Would recommend.”

As one satisfied guest shared: “I didn’t use buses even though the bus station is 2 min far from the apartment. I like to walk and see everything around so the main activities are not so far away, 25-30 min walk. Makarena is not fancy place but is beautiful, vivid and authentic there are markets, bars, restorants, the hospital is 5 min from the apartment. The airport is 15 min far by car, I took Uber from the apartment and it cost me 17 euros. The train station is 30 min far by walk but I took blablacar to go to Cadiz because there was no return tickets available. The apartment is cozy and cold, the AC works good.”

How Long To Stay In Seville?
I’ve visited Seville multiple times, most recently spending five days there in December 2024 after a brief one-day visit in May 2022.
Even after five full days exploring, I found myself wishing I had more time – there’s something magical about how this city reveals itself slowly.
While five days gave me plenty of time to see the main attractions like the central district and Jewish Quarter, browse the shops, and savour the incredible food, I felt I could have used a few more days just to soak in the city’s unique atmosphere.
There’s a particular rhythm to life in Seville – the way locals linger over coffee in the morning, the afternoon siestas, and the lively evening paseos – that takes time to truly appreciate.
Whether you’re planning a quick day trip or an extended stay, Seville accommodates all types of visitors with its wealth of accommodation options.
Though I’d definitely recommend staying longer if you can – this is a city that rewards those who slow down.
Getting around is incredibly easy since the city is so walkable.
You can also rent a bike or scooter to cover more ground, but I found myself preferring to walk just to have more chances to discover hidden plazas and charming side streets.
Where Should I Stay In Seville Without A Car?
Trust me – skip bringing a car to Seville.
The city centre has limited car access, and finding parking is a real headache (not to mention expensive!).
You’re much better off staying in the heart of the city since Seville is super compact and easy to walk around.
Getting anywhere is a breeze thanks to the great bus and tram network. I’d suggest looking at El Arenal, Alfalfa or Santa Cruz.
These neighbourhoods give you that authentic Seville feel while keeping you close to all the must-see spots. But if you really need a car for moving around Spain, you can get one below.
Final Thoughts/Conclusion
Seville is a wonderful city in the south of Spain that is full of colour and truly some great places to stay for every budget.
If you’re exploring southern Spain, you’re just a short ferry ride from North Africa. Tunisia and Morocco are fascinating places for next stops for travellers who want to experience a completely different culture.
Keep in mind that timing is everything when booking accommodations.
During peak seasons like Spring (especially during Feria) and Summer, central locations can be both scarce and expensive.
We stayed at Nine O Clock San Agustin Suites during December when we found excellent rates. It was well located, close to the old town and all the main attractions.
Because Seville is so walkable, we could easily get around ina quick time.
But next time I will get more central. Somewhere like EME Catedral Mercer Hotel looks like a real winner to me!
However, if you’re planning to visit during peak season, book well in advance for these prime locations.
The more central you are, the more expensive it will be, especially during high season. Still, if you plan your visit during quieter months like December, you could score a wonderful location for your stay – smack bang in the middle of the city – at more reasonable rates.
I hope you have a wonderful time in Seville.

James
