After spending several months between Koh Lanta and Ao Nang (Krabi), I’ve experienced every possible transport option firsthand.
And trust me, after exploring 11 Asian countries, Thailand’s transport system stands out as one of the most tourist-friendly.
I’ll walk you through each option, complete with current prices, timetables, and insider tips that I wish I’d known before my first trip.
To answer the question, the easiest way to get to Koh Lanta from Krabi is by shared minivan.
Now, with that considered, whether you’re looking for the most budget-friendly route or the most comfortable journey, I’ve got you covered.

Easiest Ways To Get To Koh Lanta From Krabi Town
Shared Minivan
The easiest way to get to Koh Lanta from Krabi Town is by shared minivan.
We made the reverse journey ourselves when we had to go from Koh Lanta to Krabi to extend our stay at the immigration office in Krabi.
So on the way back to Koh Lanta, we had a good experience.
When we completed the trip, it was October when the high season was just about to kick in. So it was very easy to get a space in the van. There were even a few empty seats. Great for us!
We were traveling from Ao Nang because that’s where we booked our hotel.
The route goes through Krabi town.
At Kong Ka Pier, we had to wait an hour and change minivans. Even then, there were still some empty seats available.
I loved Pun Thai Coffee right on the pier. They have comfy seats and nice coffee. A nice place to kill the time.
The cost per person from Krabi to Koh Lanta in a shared minivan is 450 Baht. Thankfully, the short ferry trip between the mainland and Koh Lanta is included in the price.
Normally, it takes between 2.5-4 hours to complete the journey.
How To Get To Koh Lanta From Krabi Airport
The cost for a shared minivan from Krabi airport ranges from 350 Baht to 450 Baht.
Thankfully, the journey by road isn’t long. It takes a little over an hour when traffic is good.
Actually, the distance between Krabi town and Koh Lanta is 69 km, while the distance between Koh Lanta and Krabi Airport is 59 km.
Again, we made the trip to the airport when we needed to fly back to Bangkok. The van was packed in November with the high season in full swing.
Alternatively, if you want a more comfortable and private journey, I was quoted the below:

Going with a private taxi means they’ll pick you up and drop you off right at your door – perfect if you’re traveling with family or have lots of bags!
One person I spoke to recently paid 350 baht per person from their Hotel at Long Beach to Krabi Airport in February 2025, including XXL luggage and a backpack.
The price was the same for both directions. But he did say to be careful with luggage.
Some companies ask for an extra seat for standard XL luggage.
These must be considered if you don’t want any surprises.
Keep in mind that these prices vary.
Going From Krabi Klong Jilad Pier To Koh Lanta
Although we didn’t take the ferry ourselves, I heard from other travellers that there’s a scenic passenger ferry route from Krabi Town to Lanta.
The ferry departs from Klong Jilad Pier in Krabi Town daily during high season at 11:30 AM, making a brief stop at Koh Jum before reaching Saldan Village on Koh Lanta at approximately 14.00 PM.
A second ferry leaves from Klong Jilad Pier at 2:30 PM. It stops at Koh Jum at 3:30 PM and arrives at Saladan Pier around 5:00 PM.
How Long Is The Ferry From Krabi Klong Jilad Pier
The ferry from Klong Jilad Pier generally takes about 2.5 hours, including the stop at Koh Jum.
You will arrive at Saladan Pier, where you’ll be greeted by the big blue fish statue, a sight I absolutely love seeing every time we arrive.
Normally, the ferry departs at 11:30 AM from November through to February.
If you cannot make the 11:30 AM ferry, there is another option.
Getting To Koh Lanta From Ao Nang
As mentioned before, you can get to Koh Lanta from Ao Nang by shared minivan. It’s simple, and hotel pickup is usually included.
We were collected right outside our hotel, and away we went.
In high season (November to February), you can expect the minivan to be cramped with people. In the shoulder season, like October, you can expect a little more room in the minivan.
A stop at Kong Ka Pier will likely be required.

Koh Lanta Car Ferry
One of my favorite things about this journey is the transfer from land to sea at Hua Hin pier.
Our minivan slowly drove onto the boat, and we waited until it was full before departing across the channel from mainland Krabi to Koh Lanta Noi.
The landscape is beautiful, and I suggest you exit the minivan and climb the steps of the ferry to get a nice vantage point overlooking the sea.
The vast limestone cliffs that you find scattered throughout Krabi can be found here in the sea too.
They are beautiful and a great way to bring excitement to the visit to Koh Lanta.
Please note that when we were traveling from Koh Lanta to Hua Hin pier, we were left sitting waiting at the pier for over an hour.
Traffic was terrible, and I’m not sure what caused the delay. We were rushing back to catch our flight to Bangkok from Krabi Airport, and it was a close call.
While we did arrive on time, if the delay had been much longer, we might have been in trouble.
Of course, this delay can happen whether you’re traveling by motorbike, minivan, or car.
A speedboat would never have this lengthy delay.
Something to keep in mind if you’re heading to catch an important flight, though I don’t believe these delays are common.

As you can see, Thailand’s tourist infrastructure and transport services offer affordable and comfortable ways to get to Koh Lanta from Krabi, whether you’re coming from the airport or Krabi town.
While the minivans can be cramped, they are an effective way to travel between Krabi’s main airport and town to the neighboring destinations like Ao Nang and Koh Lanta.
However, if you’re not feeling up to a shared experience, you can always opt for private transport, though it’s more expensive.
