Silver Waterfall sits 11.8km from Sapa town centre and costs nothing to enter, making it an incredible stop that easily slots into a day exploring the O Quy Ho Pass region.
I get it.
You’ve only got a handful of days in Sapa, and every hour counts when you’re trying to see the rice terraces, markets, and mountain passes. The last thing you want is to waste half a day on a waterfall that turns out to be underwhelming.
During my five days in Sapa, I visited multiple waterfalls and mountain viewpoints. Silver Waterfall stood out as one of the best.
My private driver collected me around 09.00 AM, and we spent the entire day weaving through mountain roads, stopping at Heaven Gate, the glass bridge, and several viewpoints along O Quy Ho Pass. Silver Waterfall was the highlight. The spray hits you before you even reach the wooden bridge, and looking up at the cascade with sunglasses on (trust me, you’ll need them) gives you this ridiculous sense of scale.

Silver Waterfall is located 11.9 kilometres from the centre of Sapa town and takes about 30 minutes to reach by car or slightly less on a motorbike.

Getting There
The best way to get to Silver Waterfall is exactly how I did it: I rented a private driver for the day to take me around the best sites along the O Quy Ho Pass.
The drive from the town centre took about 30 minutes. Having a private driver gave me freedom to see what I wanted for as long as I wanted, which was great.
You can also see the Silver Waterfall on a group tour from Sapa town. This is a great way to meet other people and see a number of the best sites, like Cat Cat Village, Lonely Tree, Heaven Gate, or Rong Glass Bridge, depending on what your tour includes.
I recommend booking this tried and tested tour, which includes Silver Waterfall and Love Waterfall on one day trip. You’ll also see local Hmong people in nearby villages and get amazing views of the rice terraces.
Lastly, you can rent a motorbike from Sapa town for the day and travel at your own pace to Silver Waterfall.

Best To Visit Silver Waterfall In Sapa?
The best time to visit Sapa is generally between March and May or September and October.
Both periods offer a unique way to experience Sapa.
Earlier in the year, you’ll see lush green vegetation across the land with colourful flowers blooming. Very picturesque! However, if you visit later in the year, you’ll see golden rice fields because it’ll be much drier.
I visited in July, so I had a good mix of rainy and sunny days with lush greenery, blue skies for full days, and some overcast weather too.
Places like Ta Van and its surroundings look amazing when it’s wet and lush, and the greenery is at its best.
It was a mixed bag, but I wouldn’t have changed much.

What To Do At The Silver Waterfall
Silver Waterfall doesn’t offer loads to do, if I’m honest.
I’d still 1000% recommend you visit.
Here’s what you can do:
- Explore the waterfall bridge and path to get the best views of the top.
- Buy something from local Hmong ladies.
- Take some amazing photos of the waterfall.
- Have lunch and amazing seafood at Song Nhi Restaurant Sa Pa.

Love Waterfall
Love Waterfall is smaller than I expected, around 100 meters tall, but narrow.
The trail there is full of smaller, equally beautiful waterfalls that I stumbled upon first.
To reach the main waterfall, you have to cross the river on some large rocks, so be careful and bring a hiking pole or waterproof shoes.
I ended up taking selfies with three Vietnamese girls along the way. They were so friendly.

Lonely Tree
The Lonely Tree is one of my favourite spots.
The trail is steep, but the views of the surrounding landscape are epic. I spent time flying my drone and chatting with local Vietnamese kids, who were fascinated by my “sky cam”, as they call it.
The weather was almost perfect, with clouds but no rain, which made the sky look moody and revealed glimpses of mountains at times.

Rong May Glass Bridge
I got nervous on the bridge because it is so tall.
The height is part of the thrill. You can see how impressive it is right below the elevator that takes you up.
I did not meet anyone else while crossing, but it is a striking experience you will not forget.

Heaven Gate
Heaven Gate really lives up to its name.
When the fog and mist cleared, the surrounding mountains appeared as if they were framing a scene from a painting. I visited around 10 or 11 a.m.
The red and white path around the peak looked like cake icing. It was remarkable.

Cat Cat Village
Cat Cat Village is full of local charm.
I noticed girls dressed in traditional clothing, and they even asked if I could take some pictures of them. In the low river near the bridge, a white horse was standing peacefully. It was beautiful.
The village has a small hydro museum and waterfalls around it, one of which I later discovered is called Cat Phat Waterfall, named after the area.

Silver Waterfall ranks amongst Sapa’s finest waterfalls and absolutely deserves a spot on your itinerary.
You could even stay at one of the best homestays in Sapa and go from there.
The 30-minute visit combines easily with O Quy Ho Pass, Heaven Gate, Lonely Tree, and the glass bridge when booking a private driver for around $80.00. Safety matters here; swimming is genuinely dangerous due to steep drops and slippery paths from constant spray.
Pack a waterproof jacket to protect your camera and clothing from mist, and bring sunglasses for looking upward at the waterfall’s top where sunlight reflects intensely. The wooden bridge upstairs offers the best central views for photography.

The best photographs come from the wooden bridge upstairs, offering central views of the full cascade. Budget 30 minutes for your visit.
