Angel Cave Vang Vieng: Full Travel Guide

My Experience At Tham None And Angel Cave Vang Vieng

Located just over 4 kilometres outside Vang Vieng, Angel Cave is one of the most interesting natural formations in Laos.

As someone who has explored this site during my one-month trip through Laos, I want to answer the main questions visitors have – where to find it and whether it’s worth visiting.

My journey to Angel Cave took me across the Namsong Blue Bridge, where I witnessed a view that represents Laos perfectly – impressive limestone karsts reaching toward the sky while daily life unfolded in the fields below.

This memory stays with me as one of my favourite moments in Vang Vieng.

Whether you’re travelling solo or with a partner, this guide provides everything you need to know about visiting Angel Cave.

It’s not only blue lagoons or epic viewpoints in Vang Vieng!

I’ll share my personal experience to help you plan your visit, including detailed directions, transport options, and what you can expect to see inside this remarkable cave system.

Where Is Angel Cave

Angel Cave is located about 4 kilometres northwest of the centre of Vang Vieng town.

It is easily accessible by tuk-tuk or by renting a motorbike, electric bike, buggy, or bicycle. There are plenty of parking spaces available on the east side of Namsong Blue Bridge.

The cave is located inside the Tham None theme park. This place is great for families and children who love adventure and excitement.

It took us about 50 minutes to walk from our hotel, The Annecy Hotel (highly recommend, by the way), to get to Angel Cave. Let’s just say we had too many drinks in Gary’s Irish Bar in the town the night before and needed to walk off the headache.

Cost To Enter Angel Cave

We paid 20,000 KIP (€0.81) per person to enter the cave.

Additionally, any other activity there, like tubing for example, cost 20,000 KIP.

The park is open from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM daily.

You could spend the whole day here if you want to take it slow, but we completed our visit in a few hours and felt that was enough time.

What Is Angel Cave Like?

Inside Angel Cave is an unforgettable experience to explore.

When we visited in mid-June, it wasn’t busy at all. There was plenty of space, and I only occasionally saw other people inside the cave. It was a peaceful time to visit.

I was blown away by all the underground features.

The cave contained some of the most interesting rock formations I’ve seen. Thankfully, the lighting system illuminated the way, which was essential since some parts of the cave were quite dark.

Some concrete paths have been added, but they are smooth and can be wet, so watch out.

Additionally, there are staircases to make moving through the cave easier, and it was a breeze.

My favourite part was when I exited the cave, thinking it was finished, only to find it was just a large opening before the cave continued.

There are trees creeping all over the rocks here, which makes it incredibly interesting to look at. If you have been to or seen pictures of Angkor Wat and the other temples in the region, it look similar to these.

You exit out behind the cave, and there are viewpoints to discover should you keep exploring Tham None after you complete the cave experience.

People of most fitness levels can complete the cave experience because, while there are stairs, overall it’s manageable for most visitors.

Popular Experiences near An Mone Angel Cave Place Vang Vieng

Vang Vieng has many blue lagoons and caves.

When we visited Angel Cave, there were many families gathered around the outdoor dining area with their kids enjoying meals.

It is a small theme park after all, so it can easily accommodate large groups who want to visit.

Although we didn’t take a guided tour, it’s a great way to see the whole park in depth.

If you’re interested in paramotoring in Vang Vieng, there’s a runway nearby. You can book an incredible experience right here to make some of the best memories possible during your Vang Vieng adventure.

Popular Hotels near An Mone Angel Cave Place Vang Vieng

The majority of the best hotels are closer to the centre of Vang Vieng and not to Angel Cave.

That being said, there are a few options close by for you to consider.

Vang Vieng Phongsavanh Resort

Viengkham Guesthouse

SCK Guesthouse

While these are not the most special accommodations you can find in Vang Vieng, they are the closest to An Mone and Angel Cave.

The good news is the hotels listed above are much closer to the railway station should you arrive from there.

Buggy Rental Service In Vang Vieng

A great way to get around Vang Vieng is by using a buggy.

We rented our e-bikes in Vang Vieng without issue, and we also rented bicycles from Kham Tours and Bus Ticket Service.

We left our passport and/or ID as a deposit for the day. Once we returned the bikes in the same condition, we got our items back without any problems.

Kham Tours and Bus Ticket Service had loads of buggies and bikes, and our experience was positive, so I recommend this place.

I wrote a post about our experience with Safety Wing.

They actually proved me right and helped us when we needed them most during a difficult situation in Kazakhstan that resulted in a week in the hospital.

Final Thoughts/Conclusion

Angel Cave in Vang Vieng is a fun place to spend some time exploring.

The cave isn’t that big, so you won’t spend hours getting lost inside. Instead, it offers an easy-to-follow route that’s well signposted, letting you discover some cool underground structures.

When I stumbled across an area where sunlight streamed in, it felt like I was in an Avatar movie.

If you are planning a trip to Vang Vieng, then Angel Cave is a must-visit destination.

With that considered, ensure you pack all the essentials for a trip to Southeast Asia. I brought so many unnecessary items. Read my post so you can avoid doing this.
