Looking for the perfect spot to cool off in Vang Vieng? As someone who spent a month exploring Laos and experiencing all the famous blue lagoons firsthand, I can tell you that Blue Lagoon 2 offers something truly special.
When I first dove into its crystal-clear waters and found myself swimming alongside so many fish, I knew this place was worth sharing.
Whether you’re a solo adventurer seeking a peaceful swim or a couple looking for a romantic spot away from the crowds, Blue Lagoon 2 strikes the perfect balance between accessibility and serenity.
After visiting Blue Lagoons 1, 2, and 6, I’ve gathered all the essential information you need – from the best times to visit and where to stay, to what makes this particular lagoon stand out from its blue siblings.

Where Is Blue Lagoon 2?
How To Get To Blue Lagoon 2?
If you’ve been following my other Vang Vieng posts, you can probably guess there are several ways to get to Blue Lagoon 2.
The distance between Vang Vieng and Blue Lagoon 2 is almost 10 kilometres.
I recommend renting an e-bike to enjoy the stunning green, lush vegetation all the way from Vang Vieng until you reach Blue Lagoon 2. You can also rent a tuk-tuk driver from town to take you there.
Leave the push bike alone unless you’re experienced. It’s hilly and challenging.
While it’s comfortable and you won’t risk getting muddy and dirty like we did, I feel you miss out on some of the countryside’s beauty along the way.
Sometimes Blue Lagoon tours are included in day tours from Vang Vieng, so you can hop into a tuk-tuk with a group, too.
Additionally, you can rent a buggy to take you around, but be prepared, they’re loud and fast, so helmets are always suggested.

What To Expect At Blue Lagoon 2
When we pulled into the large car park at Blue Lagoon 2, it wasn’t what I was expecting.
We had just dodged a large poisonous snake on the road, so we thought it best to get into the lagoon quickly.
Almost 500 meters down a muddy road from the ring road that connects all the blue lagoons in Vang Vieng, we skidded our way past farmers harvesting in the fields beside us.
We found many tuk-tuks and motorbikes parked up, it was the busiest we’d seen any of the blue lagoons during our trip.
Parking is free and it’s open from 09.00 AM until 05.30 PM. You do have to pay 20,000 KIP to enter.
At around 1:00 PM, when we arrived, there were many people already inside, swimming and jumping into the lagoon.
We passed an open food court and walked across a small bridge. The lagoon is surrounded by a large limestone cliff, where inside you can visit the Maxime Cave.

There are three blue pools which all interconnect with one another.
There are many ziplines to try, too.
You can walk around these and enjoy the amazing nature. We took a bench and sat beside Blue Lagoon café as visitors jumped into the lagoon from the diving board that must have been 3 meters tall.
There are many places to take shade from the sun, which are made from wood, and you can set up your stall at any of these.
The water was very cold and clear. To be honest, the most striking thing about this lagoon is the surrounding cliffs, which you have to look right up to appreciate in all their glory.
It’s one of the most spectacular lagoons in Laos.

This tour is a great way to combine two of Vang Vieng’s best attractions – Blue Lagoon 1 and Nam Xay Viewpoint.
Where To Stay In Vang Vieng?
Vang Vieng has loads of hostels, hotels, and guesthouses to stay in.
When we visited, we were honestly delighted with the Annecy Hotel. The views from the rooftop were seriously brilliant, overlooking the limestone cliffs and the river that runs through the town.
Every morning we had a buffet breakfast with rice, eggs, fruit and yoghurt. No complaints at all.
Some other hotels to consider right in the middle of the town include Riverside Boutique Resort, Vang Vieng, Hana Riverside Hotel and Vang Vieng Vilayvong Hotel One.
On the west side of the river, closer to Blue Lagoon 2, you have some options like Sabai Glamping Vang Vieng, Sunshine Mountain View Resort and ViengTara VangVieng Resort
All of these places are highly rated, reasonably priced and have great locations.
Other Blue Lagoons Near Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng has loads of amazing things to do, and visiting the other blue lagoons is a must on your travel plans.
Blue Lagoon 1 is a beautiful and tranquil place to spend some hours swimming in amazing water with fish.
Additionally, Blue Lagoon 6 has one of the most scenic backdrops of any lagoon I visited.
When we arrived, no staff were there, so we entered for free and, apart from 2 other tourists, we had the place all to ourselves.
Best Time To Visit Blue Lagoon 2?
If you’re planning a trip to the Blue Lagoon between October and February, you can expect excellent water conditions and weather.
We visited Vang Vieng in June, and the blue lagoons were mostly pristine. However, after one day of heavy rain, the water turned dark and muddy, affecting visibility.
During high season, you’ll find more visitors at the lagoons, but you can expect pleasant conditions with temperatures ranging from 27-32 degrees.
I promise you, if you get good weather while visiting Vang Vieng, you won’t want to leave.
Which Blue Lagoon Should You Visit In Vang Vieng?
I can only recommend visiting Blue Lagoons 1, 2, and 6.
Though the images of the others online look incredible, these are the ones I personally visited, and they are absolutely spectacular.
The water, amenities, caves, and swimming areas are incredible. Located among the vast and scenic green limestone cliffs of Vang Vieng, you’ll easily spend several enjoyable hours at these blue lagoons.
If you’re lucky enough to get one to yourself, it feels wonderfully exciting and adventurous.
How Long Do You Need At The Blue Lagoon?
I would say a couple of hours at the Blue Lagoon is totally enough if you have a day of exploring planned.
You could spend half the day or more at one lagoon if you’re feeling lazy. But I suggest visiting a few of these amazing blue lagoons because it may be a long time before you’re back in Vang Vieng again.
Group tours are great for packing them all together. We used JTP Ultimate Tours – Hot Air Balloon & Para Motor and can recommend them from our experience. But Vang Vieng has numerous tour operators all operating in the same areas, so any of these should be fine.
Just make sure you include a visit to some of these epic blue lagoons to complete your Vang Vieng adventure experience.
How Many Days In Vang Vieng?
A safe number of days to spend in Vang Vieng is 4 or 5.
This is a tough one.
On one hand, Vang Vieng is not a big city or town for that matter, so you can move through it pretty quickly.
On the other hand, many of the main attractions like Pha Ngern Viewpoint, Nam Xay viewpoint, and the stunning blue lagoon are scattered several kilometres away.
With enough planning and choosing the right tours, you can maximise the number of places you see in town and make a truly memorable trip worthwhile.
We stayed for 9 days in Vang Vieng, but this was a mixture of remote work and exploration.
What To Pack For The Blue Lagoons
You are going to need a strong and travel-friendly backpack which doesn’t hold moisture like sweat and rain.
Then you should fill it with these items:
- Sunscreen
- Water Bottle – I use Larq and they are great
- Quick Dry towel
- Sunglasses
- Water shoes
- Swimming trunks
- Mosquito repellent
- Swimming Goggles
- GoPro For Underwater Shots
- Lunch is optional
- Change of clothes optional

The pictures don’t quite do it justice, but the waters at Vang Vieng’s Blue Lagoon 2 were spectacular.
Lazing around the side, listening to people joke and laugh, with the occasional splash into the lagoon from the diving board, is really a great way to spend a day.
Vang Vieng has amazing viewpoints like Nam Xay and Pha Ngern, but there is more to it than that.

Is Vang Vieng Worth Visiting?
Vang Vieng is an adventurous town full of caves, blue lagoons, viewpoints to trek, and rice fields. You can even experience sunrise balloon rides over the town. It’s totally worth spending some days exploring what it has to offer, especially Blue Lagoon 2. This was one of the most beautiful lagoons I have seen while in Laos.
How Many Lagoons Are There In Vang Vieng?
There are 6 lagoons that most tourists visit. While I only got to see 3 of these, they were worth every moment. The water is special in Vang Vieng because of the limestone sediment. Additionally, Blue Lagoon 2 seemed to have the best water for swimming, but it can depend on the weather the day before.
Which Cave To Visit In Vang Vieng?
I recommend visiting Tham Poukham Cave, Phapongkham Cave, and An Mone & Angel Cave. Each one of these blew my mind. Deep, dark, and full of surprises, especially bats, we found so much excitement with our headlamps as we made our way through these amazing caves. Thankfully, you can easily visit Tham Poukham Cave while at Blue Lagoon 1.
