Moana Sapa sits on the edge of town, and if you’re wondering whether those viewpoints live up to the hype, I’m here to tell you they absolutely do.
I stumbled upon this place on my way back from Cat Cat Village, not expecting much beyond a quick photo stop. The entrance fee is 90,000 VND (about $2.00), which felt almost laughable once I saw what was waiting for me. The thing is, most people drive past this spot without giving it a second thought, worried it’ll be another overpriced tourist trap or that they won’t have time to fit it in.
Climbing up to the viewing platform through that tree structure gave me some of Sapa’s best views of the rice terraces, hands down. The kind of panorama that makes you stop mid-step and just stare.
Whether you’re travelling solo or with your partner, you’re probably trying to work out if Moana Sapa deserves a spot on your itinerary. Maybe you’re wondering if you can actually stay there overnight, how long you should budget for a visit, or if it’s genuinely worth the climb. I get it. Sapa has dozens of viewpoints, and your time here is limited.

Where Is Moana Sapa?
Moana Sapa is located 1.5 kilometres from Sapa Lake, so it’s walkable from town.
However, I recommend taking a bike (with a good, safe helmet) to make it easier. It will cost 50,000 Vietnamese dong.

How Do I Get To Moana Sapa?
Moana Sapa is located very close to Sapa Town.
If you’re coming from Hanoi to Sapa, you can easily get there on a quick motorbike or taxi ride.
When I visited Sapa, I stayed at Cat Cat Garden House, an elegant accommodation overlooking the rice terraces. It’s only 1.5 kilometres from Moana Sapa, and I walked that route a few times. The road was quiet, so no issue for me.
When I stayed in Sapa, I used to wave down locals to get a ride into town or elsewhere because Grab doesn’t work here.
You can alternatively book a taxi through the hotel or from the town, but it takes way longer and is much more expensive.
If you walk, just know there’s a constant incline back to Sapa town from Moana Sapa. Bring comfy walking shoes.
For me, hitching a ride works best.

Best Time to Visit?
The best time to visit Moana Sapa (or Sapa for that matter) is between March, April, and May for nice colourful flowers around the landscape.
December is colder, but it can still offer a nice experience in Sapa in the winter.
When I visited in July, it was the centre of the heavy rain season. I still had loads of days with total sunshine, but I did have some days of total rain.

Things To See Close To Moana Sapa?
Moana Sapa is a fun place to explore, but it’s worth combining your visit with other cool attractions close to Sapa town.
These include Silver Waterfall, Rong May Glass Bridge, Love Waterfall, Cat Cat Village, Heaven Gate, Ta Van and Lao Chai village for those wonderful rice terraces and mountainscape.
There are so many things to do in Sapa, and Moana Sapa is a really chill spot to take a rest and roam around the complex, enjoying the views with a coffee or tea.
When I visited, I explored the Heaven Gate inside Moana Sapa. There’s a cool piano overlooking the rice fields, great for photos, and a giant golden statue holding its hands out.
It’s peaceful, but there are lots of things to do as well.

Best Day Trips From Sapa
You can visit Muong Hoa Valley & Ta Van from Sapa on a day trip.
This doesn’t include trekking, but you do have the option.
I stayed overnight in Ta Van on my 2-day trekking tour in Sapa, and it was so much fun. Rice terraces, waterfalls, and local Black Hmong women made it special. I recommend this tour if you don’t have the energy for a long trek, and it includes a free drink at the viewpoint.
Another fun day trip from Sapa is the Eco Adventure Terrace Fields and Local Villages Trek.
You’ll discover the ethnic minorities along the hillside, and it includes an English-speaking guide and lunch with local people. A big plus is that the entrance ticket is included too.

I loved my experience at O Quy Ho Pass, as well as Silver Waterfall and the epic Love Waterfall. I recommend this tour to see the best of Sapa on a motorbike, which includes entry tickets and lunch.
Lastly, I recommend doing the Lao Chai and Ta Van Villages Day Tour with Lunch.
You’ll come across the local tribes of the Hmong, Dao, and Dzay people, perfect for cultural enthusiasts and explorers.
It also includes a Batik workshop for painting.

Final Thoughts/Conclusion
Moana Sapa completely surprised me with how big the complex actually is, from the huge hotel beside it to all the fun photo spots scattered around, like the bridges, giant hands, and Heaven’s Gate.
I went in the morning, and the light was perfect for capturing the valley views.
Bring a small backpack with a lightweight jacket, water bottle, and sunscreen so you’re prepared for Sapa’s changeable weather. My top tip is to take as many photos as you can with all the monuments and installations, not just the tree platform. They make the experience more memorable than just snapping the valley views.
I’d definitely go again to relax and unwind, especially after trekking through the villages. The peaceful atmosphere makes it perfect for taking it easy with a coffee whilst soaking in the panorama. It works brilliantly whether you’re a solo traveller looking to meet people or a couple wanting to relax together without distractions.
For $3.50, you get sweeping valley views, unique photo opportunities, and a complimentary drink in a setting that feels worlds away from busy Sapa town centre. It deserves a spot on your itinerary, whether you have an hour to spare or want to spend the afternoon unwinding after exploring Cat Cat Village.

Yes, completely. The amazing views, photo opportunities, and peaceful vibe make it a great place to visit when in Sapa town. I visited on my way back from Cat Cat Village and the rice terrace views from the tree platform ranked among the best I saw in Sapa. You can see the Fansipan cable car, mountains, terraced rice fields, and the valley stretching below in one sweeping panorama. Plan for one to two hours to relax with your complimentary drink and soak in the views. When I went, around 50 people were there, which felt busy but not uncomfortably crowded.
How Much Is a Moana Sapa Ticket?
A ticket to Moana Sapa costs 90,000 Vietnamese dong ($3.50) and includes a free drink of tea or coffee. It’s totally worth it for the photo opportunities. The small bridge and tree platform overlooking the valley offer brilliant shots, especially in late morning light between 09.00 AM and 11.00 AM when crowds are lighter, and the views are clearest. The viewpoint opens at 07.00 AM and closes at 07.00 PM daily, giving you plenty of flexibility to visit.
Where Is Moana Sapa in Vietnam?
Moana Sapa is located a short 1.5 kilometres southeast of Sapa town. You can get there by walking, motorbike, or car, and you can enjoy the scenic views as you walk, which I recommend. Walking takes about 20 minutes from the town centre, though you’ll face an uphill return. The road has some potholes, but nothing that makes the journey difficult.
