Looking for the best restaurants in Luang Prabang? The food scene here is nothing short of fantastic, offering an incredible mix of traditional Laotian flavours and international cuisine.
During my time exploring this charming UNESCO World Heritage town, I discovered a perfect blend of upscale dining and authentic local experiences, with 88 Chophouse Restaurant and Bar becoming my favourite spot in the city.

One of my fondest memories was at 88 Chophouse, where the staff’s warm welcome and their willingness to introduce me to authentic Lao sauces made each visit special.

Dyen Sabai
This place was special and offered traditional Lao food.
Overlooking the Nam Khan River that flows through Luang Prabang, Dyen Sabai features bamboo growing throughout, and the staff were polite and helpful.
Its a little hard to find in what feels like a hidden away path to the river.
When we visited, there weren’t many people around, so we could lie on the cushions with our food and drinks and relax away from the heat.
One kid climbed about three meters up the tree right in front of us, harvested some oranges, and threw them down to his friend beside us. No harness, no safety, but this was incredible to see.
Open from 10:00 AM until 11:00 PM, you can enjoy great food here and experience what feels like a jungle retreat by the river.
I recommend having a Beer Lao or a coconut smoothie along with some chicken or tofu coconut soup.
88 Chophouse Restaurant & Bar
Another incredible eating experience and one of my favourites was 88 Chophouse Restaurant & Bar.
This was luckily a stone’s throw away from our guesthouse – Mao Pha Sok Guesthouse. (A great place to stay, by the way.)
The staff were always polite and quick to deliver our food, and thankfully, it wasn’t very busy anytime we visited.
My favourite things to eat here were easily the fresh tilapia and Lao sauces. Additionally, the pork rib steak with black pepper sauce was delicious.
The images don’t do the taste justice. It brought us back many more times, it was that good.
It is open from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM and closes on Mondays.
Nisha Restaurant Indian Halal food
Nisha Restaurant Indian Halal food, surprised us, I will not lie.
It doesn’t look like anything special from the outside, but the proof is in the pudding, or in this case, the curry.
We often find tasty Indian restaurants on our travels in Southeast Asia, and Luang Prabang has some brilliant Indian food.
My favourite meal here was the chicken korma. Not too spicy but packed full of flavour, and you can have it made to taste. More spicy? No problem.
You can have halal and vegetarian dishes too, so it caters to many types of travellers.
The restaurant is family-run, and it shows through the kindness of the staff.
It is open from 9:00 AM until 11:00 PM and is very reasonably priced compared to the former restaurants listed in this post.
Chennai Restaurant Indian & Malaysian halal food
If you want a tasty dining experience with picturesque views over the Mekong River, then you need to visit Chennai Restaurant, Indian & Malaysian halal food.
We were greeted by staff who took us from the road down onto a platform that sits above the river. It was a peaceful place to eat and felt hidden away from the passersby on the street, with less noise from the traffic.
I recommend you try the medium-spiced chicken tikka masala or vegetable samosa. The sauce was delicious and creamy, not watery, which I appreciate.
The restaurant opens from 9:00 AM until 10:00 PM, so don’t expect any late dining here. You can choose from a variety of northern and southern Indian food.
Alamea Restaurant
If you are wondering where to eat in Luang Prabang, then Alamea Restaurant is a great option to consider.
While it is more expensive than other places in town, you get better quality for the money, I feel.
When we visited, we were there to watch a free screening of the black and white historical Laos movie “Chang.” We ate our dinner in front of the outdoor small cinema screen, and the staff were excellent, in fairness.
We sat outside and had nice views down onto the road and the Mekong River. It felt like a much fancier restaurant than any other we had visited in Luang Prabang.
We loved the Steamed Mekong Fish and Lao Style Steak. This was a great choice, and if you can, try to watch the movie too; it’ll make for a memorable evening.
Opening hours are between 09.00 AM and 10.00 PM.
Zürich Bread Café & Bar
Zürich Bread Café & Bar is a modern café in Luang Prabang. Walking in, I really wasn’t expecting such a clean and contemporary design.
First of all, the coffee is fantastic. I recommend a cappuccino with their special vanilla syrup.
The restaurant was packed full of sweet snacks and treats, but you can also have breakfast, lunch, and brunch should you need to.
It’s open from 06:00 AM until 09:00 PM, and make sure to venture upstairs where the fun design makes a nice spot to hang out for a meal and beverage.
La Silapa Italian & Lao Kitchen
If you want to have the best pizza in Luang Prabang, you must consider a visit to La Silapa Italian & Lao Kitchen.
This place is located right beside Zürich Bread Café & Bar.
It’s not just Italian food, you can try other Asian dishes like Korean-style BBQ, German sausage platter, or even sample some local Lao food.
Guada was over the moon with her large ham and mushroom pizza, so if you’re searching for a taste of another continent, you can find that here too. The pizza is made in a wood fire oven.
La Silapa Italian & Lao Kitchen is open from 11:30 AM until 10:00 PM, and I recommend you visit for a tasty Italian experience.
There are both indoor and outdoor seating options, and the coffee is excellent too.
Rosetta Cafe
Another modern but peaceful place to eat in Luang Prabang is Rosetta Cafe.
This place feels hidden away, as if the owners didn’t want too many people to know about it. Once we found it, we fell in love with the modern outdoor and indoor design.
Though you can only have breakfast or lunch here, it’s worth visiting.
Luang Prabang has some great coffee too, and Rosetta Cafe is included. You can have Italian food, Lao food, and sweet desserts should you have the urge.
Rosetta Cafe is a beautiful and bright cafe that is worth visiting when you are in Luang Prabang.

My memories of Luang Prabang are amazing.
All of these amazing places to eat are just another reason Luang Prabang is worth visiting! Whiskey Village, Pak Ou Caves and all the wonderful temples make the town what it is – special.
From taking the slow boat from Luang Prabang to Huay Xai, discovering the amazing Buddhist temples and fun attractions to visit, this UNESCO town left a great impression.
